For this proposal I got the idea from a success story by Explorer West Middle School. Because everyone does not or forgets to recycle at school, most of the waste will go into
the garbage. They first started by weighing their own amount of garbage after one day
of school. They came to the total of 18 pounds.
Colored bags can be purchased for students so they know the where to
place their garbage. Such as the color blue for garbage, white for paper and yellow
for cans, bottles and glass. They also ordered a worm bin and other related supplies to
take care of their other organic waste. By the end of the school year they had hoped to
lose some weight in garbage.
Materials needed : Worm Bin, Colored Bags, and more Trash Bins for more individual
garbage and other waste.
Cost : Trash bags $79.00 x 3 for the different colors, they come in 200 bag packages
and they are 30 gallon the small size and we can reuse them to save. More Trash Bins for
hallways / rooms approximately 20 bins x $13.99.
We can easily make worm bins; we can just purchase two 8-10 gallon plastic storage tubs/bins at $5.00 each and a pound of red worms.
As an environmental result it will be less garbage in the landfills and more recycling
that will be done.
