Earth Day Proposal
Computers Energy Saving
In the Preston Schools there are many ways that we waste energy, and there are many ways we could save energy just by doing some little things. One thing that I chose to make a proposal is on saving energy with our computers. There are 170 computers in our school that don't get shut off everyday and just waste energy. If we could shut off the computers everyday we could save energy. Turning off the computers wouldn't take very long and you can shut them all off by clicking a button on the master computer.
In an average year the Preston Schools spends about $21,443 a year on just the energy of the computers alone. In turning off the computers they could save about $19,165 a year!! It would only cost about $2,278 a year to run the computers if they are shut off every night. Also leaving a computer on 24/7 it would emit about 1.5 tons of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This proposal will also virtually coast absolutely nothing to do. All that needs to be done is the librarian or the teacher has to turn off the computers every night before they go home.
